- Have available to make ramps: unit blocks of varying lengths, large hardcover books, flat pieces of Styrofoam or cardboard, slide etc. For the movable items use balls, anything with wheels, plus things without wheels to compare difference of movement.
- Demonstrate how to create ramps of different heights a couple of times, and then have the children explore the concept.

- The way to change how something is moving is to give it a push or a pull.
- The gradient of a ramp influences the speed of an object moving on it, and the distance it travels before stopping by itself.
- Make a high ramp and roll a ball on it. Will the ball roll fast or slow? Now make a low ramp and roll the same ball. Fast or slow? Try rolling a car down each ramp. How far does the car go on the floor before it stops? Put a piece of tape there. Now roll the car down the short ramp. How far does it go on the floor? Build some other ramps and try it, and tell us what happens.

- Use a marble run game, such as Marble Works. The kind with the clear tubes are great, since you can see the marbles rolling.
- Go outside and roll down a hill.
