Extended Learning and Other Curriculum Areas
Place some dirt in sensory box – children use hands or various digging tools, and magnifying glass, to explore.
Add clay or plastic pots, bulbs, seeds, water, model insects and other animals
Use eyes, nose, and touch to find bits of leaves, rocks sand and decaying matter in the dirt.
Compare 2 kinds of dirt. Differences, similarities?
Make mud.
Stir some dirt with some water in a jar. Shake it and watch and see what happens. The dirt particles slowly fall to the bottom.
Make a “dirt” collage on a paper plate, with small rocks, leaf bits etc. Add simple stand-up trees, dinos, animals etc.
Crush or grind some different colored clays and mix with a little water to make “paint”. Use brushes and paint with it.
